Peugeot launched its 508 large family car in 2010; at the time it was an interesting move for a company that has built its name on the smaller end of the range, but it was welcomed with warm reviews. It’s available in three sizes of petrol engine (1.6, 2.0 and 2.3) and three diesels (1.6, 2.0 and 2.2), with a choice of 5- or 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. As a family car it succeeds in the number one category: space. There’s plenty of headroom and legroom front and back, and the boot is big for a car of its class, perfect for getting away for the weekend or doing a big weekly shop. For even more space, there’s also the 508 SW (where SW stands for station wagon – estate in English). It’s also a safe car, getting five stars in the Euro NCAP test.
