Concept cars usually remain just that – a display of design and engineering dexterity on a motor show pedestal. But what happens when demand for a concept car actually gets so popular that it becomes a viable production model? That’s what happened with the Peugeot RCZ; it was such a hit at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show that Peugeot decided to take the plunge and officially launch it in 2010. It owes some of its design to the profile of the Audi TT, but the distinctive headlamps and front end give it the stamp of Peugeot. If you’re looking at second hand Peugeot RCZs, you have a choice of two engines: a 1.6 litre turbo (petrol) or a 2.0 litre turbo (diesel). The 2014 model has a top speed of 155 mph and its six gears will ease you to 60 in 5.9 seconds, all of which is testament to its magnificent engineering, and proof that you don’t need a huge engine to get a lively driving experience.
